It can be counterproductive and less convenient to invent scripts for languages when you can already adopt scripts from people that you have relations to. The germanics (Anglos, Germans) and romance languages did this.

Tropical west Africans generally didn’t write at all until european intervention. The Muslims in West Africa did. BIG DIFFERENCE.
