But the vampires are Europeans who show up wanting to “take their stories.” And the bigger issue is how it portrays Christianity as a white man’s faith. Most offensive is the moment the main character starts relighting the Lord’s prayer and the white vampire starts reciting it with him. And then laughs. Because he argues that Christianity was imposed upon them. And the lesson he has to teach his father is that to come into their own artistry, black people must shake off the shackles of Christianity.
