Wa alaykum salam warahmatullah. This is a solid question. You can do either, but there is a massive advantage you do not want to miss by staying home for the entire night. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave us a powerful formula for these nights. He said: "Whoever stands with the Imam until he finishes, it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night." If you pray in congregation at the mosque behind the Imam until he completes the prayer, you automatically secure the reward of standing the entire night. It is a guaranteed win. However, voluntary prayers done privately at home hold a special weight. Praying at home brings blessings to your house, keeps away the trap of showing off, and allows you to cry and make dua in total privacy without worrying about the person standing next to you. Here is the best strategy to maximize Laylatul Qadr. Go to the mosque. Pray with the congregation until the Imam finishes so you lock in the reward of the whole night. Then, go back home, find a quiet corner, and spend whatever time you have left making your personal duas, reading the Quran, and begging Allah privately before Sahur. Do not choose just one. Combine the two and take all the rewards. May Allah accept your own ibadah and mine too. Allah knows best.
