Two years ago, my sister Adaora left her teaching job in Enugu. Everyone called her crazy. “Good government job, steady salary, pension why you wan throw everything away?” She wanted to build something of her own a small online clothing brand using Ankara and modern African prints. No shop. No big capital. Just her Nokia phone, a second-hand sewing machine, and N47,000 she saved from salary. Her first “studio” was the veranda of our mother’s house.

Last year, I watched my cousin in Kumasi almost give up. He had a small phone repair shop. Business was slow. ECG took light every day. Dust and heat made it hard to even concentrate. Customers complained about prices. He started sleeping in the shop some nights because rent was choking him. One evening he called me: Bro, maybe this dream is not for people like us. I’m tired. I asked him one question: What’s the smallest thing you can do tomorrow even if everything else stays the same? He said: “Learn one new phone model properly.”
