He's only the visible reminder of the disease that has so thoroughly infected the Republican Party. Fecklessness and corruption have taken over, and the party is on a suicide mission.

In @realDonaldTrump's mind, there is only him. He is everything. Everything is his. Everything is about him. Nothing else, no one else, matters. In his own mind, he is the law. Everyone must follow him. He is the only one who gets to say what is right and what is wrong. And what is right or wrong turns on how, at any given instant of time, it makes him feel, and upon how he thinks it affects him. This is textbook pathological narcissism. It is textbook sociopathy and psychopathy. These are textbook personality disorders. These are textbook psychiatric afflictions—indeed, an extreme illustration of them. Textbook mental illness. At this point, after all we have seen, there cannot be even the slightest doubt. And this leaves aside his seemingly apparent descent into the dementia that ended his father's life. Yet we, as a society and as a nation, largely refuse to discuss his mental condition—at least publicly. The accelerating destruction that he has wrought, and will continue to wreak, is on all of us—especially those who choose to look the other way.
