I’m going to allow a little flexibility today about my Lent discipline and post this: I’ve been avoiding actually buying my grown-up professional camera and lenses because I have crippling imposter syndrome. Please, if you would, help me get over this bump in the road? We are heading into town to the camera store at my husband’s insistence today after months of me finding every reason imaginable not to. We have the money. It’s been there the whole time. My blurts (reasons not to spend ten thousand on photography equipment): Who am I fucking kidding? Dreams are for younger people. I should spend it on therapy instead. I should let my husband use it to build more shelves. My kids will need more emergency plumbing at some point, maybe I should wait and see? I don’t deserve nice things. I’m dying anyway, why bother fighting off learning curves to just never be able to make images that I’ve dreamed about for years. Doing art just because you can’t not do art isn’t practical. I’m not worth that kind of investment. _______________ I’d feel this way about anything we do for me. I feel deeply that I’m out of time for things I want. Blarg Help?????? I love this picture I took. It makes me happy to look at it. I know how hard it was to create. I want to make more pretty things. I want to document the beauty I find in the world. So I don’t forget it as my life fades out to emptiness.

The fire was out, the muse was cold, And he had languished  On a well-worn, single frame of film, Slid in between the epic Hero’s journey she was sold. “But I believed the wind and ash From your caldera of regrets Would never, ever, catch us here,” She sighed. Was she the error He was destined ever to remake— “Did we resent the script, or roles?” A Sisyphus of plausible deniability Had undermined their romance Time and time again, until— The landscape shifted, Wells ran dry, The magma chamber Underground refilled, And tilted earth and sky To pressurize This tumbling rumbling effigy Of promises and pain. “I cannot bear your scrutiny.” “I cannot bear your lies.” -cassandra
