For me, 2023 was the most uneventful year in the last 5 years. My 2023 in review 1. Made impact on an enterprise wide solution. 2. Travelled to 4 countries 3. Saw my first NBA finals game (Game 4) 4. 50 Cent’s Final lap tour 5. Saw my favorite art piece 6. Improved communication skills (From 20-60) 7. Lost a treasure, gained a treasure 8. Formed a stronger bond with son. 9. Improved financial intelligence.

Aliko Dangote built his empire by following one pattern over and over. Find something Nigeria imports massively. Build local capacity. Capture the domestic market. Cement, sugar, salt, flour, and now oil refining at 700,000 barrels per day. When I evaluate a stock now, I ask the same question. Is this company solving a real problem at massive scale? Companies producing things people need every day tend to be the most durable investments. What Nigerian company do you think is solving the biggest problem right now?

Jehovah’s Witnesses still strongly oppose accepting blood transfusions from others. They have only relaxed their stance on autologous blood transfusion, now “allowing members to have their own blood removed, stored, and ‘given back’ during medical procedures.” Members are still strictly forbidden from receiving allogeneic blood transfusion, so this change barely scratches the surface. Though, this updated rule could have saved a family friend a great deal of money and stress many years ago when he needed major surgery involving reinfusion of his own blood. Every hospital he visited in Nigeria told him it was too risky so he had to travel to Japan for the procedure. And many others. At first glance, this updated policy seems like progress but it really isn’t. I’m not moved. As a child, I lost multiple friends whose lives could’ve been saved if they accepted blood transfusion from others. I know many more people who weren’t given a fighting chance. I hope this change at least creates a shift in how a few people who are dogmatic about this subject view things — these are man-made rules and like all human systems they are prone to error and imperfection. I continue to believe that no merciful, kind, or loving God would prefer that people die rather than allow their lives to be saved through advances in science and medicine. This applies to other Christians who adamantly follow conspiracy theories from their pastors about vaccines. Stop playing tinko tinko with your lives. Do not die for the sake of mad men. Lastly, and this is difficult to say, this policy would not have saved Aunty Esther. From my understanding, she required an allogeneic blood transfusion which remains absolutely prohibited by the governing body.

🚨BREAKING: The Jehovah's Witnesses organization has updated its policy on blood transfusions, allowing members to have their own blood removed, stored, and "given back" in medical procedures, marking the first significant shift in the religion's stance after a 75-year prohibition on its members.
