Shouesday #20 ⭆ Asics Megablast A shoe that is designed out of purity. The best of the best. No limits on development cost, material cost or any other restrictions. Just make the best training shoe possible and see what the price will be to justify that. That's the philosophy behind this €240 shoe. But is it as good as Asics claims it is? I ran 104 km in this shoe to see how good it really is. Spec Overview: Weight: 230 gr Stack height: 45 mm Heel drop: 8 mm Foam material: FF TURBO² (A-TPU) Short Intro: About me: I'm 189 cm, 80 kg, wear a size US 11. I have a midfoot strike. About the training: Longest run was 20 km. Used mostly for longer runs with pace changes. Midsole The midsole is what it's all about. A full superfoam midsole with high energy return. And you feel it. You are flying away with this shoe and I really enjoy it. The midsole is bouncy but gives a lot of energy back. The previous version of FF Turbo was too stiff for me, but this updated version hits that sweet spot. Not so stiff anymore, but also stiff enough that it doesn't need a plate to help solidify the shoe. This shoe feels great for my midfoot strike. I've tried a bit of heel striking too and it felt less comfortable. I've run from super easy pace <6'00/km to strides >2'50/km and the shoe worked well. I found it worked best from moderate to threshold effort. I did a long run with 6x6 min at threshold in this shoe and that was amazing. 1K repeats felt a bit off, I missed the snap from a plate there. Upper The upper is not great for me. Every run I did, I struggled with the lockdown. Pull the laces too tight, and the front starts to crease and gives me blisters on the medial side of the base of the big toe, which I've had on both feet. Do the laces too loose, and my foot slides forward and hits the toe bumper. Breathability is good. I do not have issues with the durability although I've heard that it's not great. I can't conclude that from my experience just yet. I've found a tiny sweet spot that if I wear thick socks, and pull the laces tight with a heel lock but looser at the first few notches, I get all the benefits and none of the irritation. But it's hard to find that sweet spot and usually results in having to adjust the laces 2 or 3 times during my run. Outsole The outsole is very grippy and bites into the ground. I like it. It gives me a lot of confidence in all conditions. Wet or dry, mud or sandy roads, it worked really well. It weirdly enough reminds me of the outsole feeling of the OG Cloudmonster. There is a lot of exposed foam, so I'm curious to see how that holds up over the long term. Laces The Megablast has these notched laces that seem like a rip-off from the older Nike racing models. They are okay but they feel a bit cheap. The lockdown is fine but I do have to do a double knot to make sure the laces don't get loose. I need a heel lock to get a secure fit. Training Partners This shoe is the ultimate daily trainer. It is designed to take on everything from easy runs to races. So it wouldn't be logical to use training partners next to this. If you want to rotate two shoes, I would highly recommend going with two top tier shoes that you can buy for almost the same price as this single shoe. A rotation like the Evo SL + Novablast is something you can get for the same price if you find a good sale. Alternatives The direct competitor is the Evo SL. Also a full racing caliber foam that can be used at a wide range of paces. Although this shoe is €90 cheaper… Another competitor for daily trainer that has a similar feel is the Mizuno Neo Vista 2. It probably wouldn't perform as well on your fastest runs, but the ride is similar. @bog_beef @Mssr_le_Baron TBH - The black fraternities do unimaginable shit when it comes to hazing, and they are completely left alone. Normal fraternities are perpetually in the gaze of Sauron because they’re legacy white institutions.

@runliftrunlift Standing calf raises from Dante Trudel. Game changer: 1-2 straight sets of 10-20 reps. On each rep, lower into the eccentric half over 3-5 seconds. Hold the fully stretched position for 10-20 seconds. Explosively, perform the concentric half. Repeat. H/t @PGC1a_RB

Isometrics have made a massive difference in my health and performance over the past year. They’ve helped me sustain hard workouts and higher mileage. The exciting thing is I’ve barely scratched the surface with them. I haven’t done much in terms of overcoming isometrics (below⬇️), just what I’d call heavy negatives on gym machines. Lots to still work on and incorporate into my training.
Eamonn Flanagan@EamonnFlanagan

Isometric training (IST) for endurance runners has grown in popularity recently but remains relatively under-studied. This article presents a strong theoretical rationale. Potential benefits most likely via improved economy rather than via VO₂max or lactate threshold.

Another exercise that has unbelievable benefits is a full range of motion back extension. Tiny aches and discomfort disappear. Makes everything in daily life go smoother. No, deadlifts or rows don’t work for this. You must do this full ROM and include a hold at the top position.

You don't realize how important your hip flexors are until you start training them. Your legs will feel substantially lighter as you pick them up to walk. It's easy to imagine how this translates to athleticism and injury prevention, among other things like digestion.

Megablast are it. I ho-hum checked the mileage on my pair. 413 miles, nearly all road miles. Still going strong. It's not like they're just OK, they're outstanding. Barely a diff from mile 1. The ride is 👌, the upper is flawless & the tread is only slightly worn in a few spots.

No, it was funded by the cog and Parks department, but you are correct about maintenance and amenities with Friends of Katy Trail. It has a vibrant philanthropic nonprofit that maintains it. The @DallasParkRec department is responsible for the maintenance of it, but with the philanthropy, they can match park money since the city budgeting priorities are a little all over the map.

"The firm left for many of the same reasons Fortune 50 firm AT&T is planning to — parking, public safety and the allure of shiny and new." @CityOfDallas needs a whole new philosophy on downtown. Start focusing on a younger demographic. Stop handing out "affordable housing," or "workforce housing" or whatever the coty calls it now, and end subsidized housing sprawl citywide. Prioritize downtown residential development. The kids all love their walkability, scooters, and urban vibes anyway. My Gen-X did it with Deep Ellum. Now look at it. We did it with lower Greenville too. Probably Uptown also if you hung out at The Loon. dallasnews.com/business/real-… Make downtown fun again.

@adamaoc @Johnyalamo @CityOfDallas Yep. Buddy Cramer and Harwood have brought a lot to the area and are raking in money. Not sure of the developers on the Knox area of the trail but that is also going nuclear with mixed use right now.

@borealisrunner @Johnyalamo @CityOfDallas The Katy Trail mattered because it was layered on top of zoning, density, and a connected street grid. Trails don’t create growth on their own—they amplify places that are already allowed to grow. And yes the people who control and manage it all makes a huge difference.

@adamaoc @Johnyalamo @CityOfDallas I would say policy-wise, Uptown being managed by the Uptown Dallas Inc. nonprofit and operating as a Public Improvement District is the advantage. Lots of things they can do with the extra taxes collected instead of waiting for the City for funds and/or policy.

@adamaoc @Johnyalamo @CityOfDallas Uptown booms because 75/366 is essentially a DMZ between the Sec. 8 housing population and homless who occupy everything south. If you cross over anywhere between Henderson and Pearl its basically going into Fallujah. City of course refuses to address.

@Johnyalamo @CityOfDallas What has allowed uptown to boom the way it has should be studied by downtown and surrounding areas. Also as a large shareholder in AT&T, it doesn't make me happy they're looking to build a huge new campus when their not in the best shape...

@Dallas_Matters @dartmedia @caraathome @amuse @dallasenfuego Not surprised given that University Park is one of Dallas' top affluent communities in the city to live. Heaven forbid those rich folks would allow public transit there. Sounds like Highland Village and Flower Mound all over again. Condescending snobs...........

@BonesawMD Lifting physiognomy is real. You can tell a powerlifter from a crossfitter from a gym bro with one look at their physique. Exercises and the intensity they are performed at have different physical manifestations.

There's a certain physique that people who deadlift heavy unlock. Thick, solid, tight. Different density. Complete posture. Exercise science lifters may disagree conceptually but you know it's true. Can look at someone and tell.

Another way of putting is that it’s really hard to lose a ton of weight *due* to running only is that it’s impossible for 99% of runners to run the volume needed on a consistent basis to become rail thin. You have to earn the classic “runner’s body”. Many mistake this.

Always cool when someone with a lot of domain specific experience and knowledge helps the aspiring. More of this type of thing in 2026 will serve everyone well. Thanks for stepping in @Brady_H ! (Not sure I’ll ever run a marathon however! Maybe).

2025 Training: I ran 40% more miles, longer workouts, faster races and faster big workouts. PR’d in every race I ran. Strava fitness score: Significantly lower than a year prior when my training volume was low, and my races were much slower. Don’t trust fitness algorithms blindly.
