starting tmrw night some of the best mens and womens lacrosse players in the world will be competing in olympic sixes (and yes, some of the best pros in the world are also playing in the nll right now and I would encourage you watch that, too). stepping back for a sec…i think in speaking with lacrosse fans. you guys. i keep coming back to the common denominator. we all just love the game. even if we prefer one discipline over another…or if you hate one discipline altogether. there’s one you might love.
we've all played the game. most of us. it’s part of what makes being a lacrosse fan cool. btw the caliber of athlete who plays doesn’t get the credit he and she deserves. it’s a rly hard game to play. and that’s why a lot of people can’t.
those of you who follow hs lacrosse, watch college, root your players and universities on...there’s more. the players who we've been following...they're even better in their 20's. actually ridiculous. the talent in lacrosse right now is insane. ive heard from people who played college lax in the 80s, moved west for work, didn’t see the game for 30 years, and have come back watching a pll game on abc and just go…wtf happened to these players??? i tell them it started at the youth level and has accelerated. 8th graders are shooting 100mph.
here’s good news. if you watch hs or college lacrosse, you might have an espn subscription. the entire championship series tournament. both pll and wll. will be live on espn unlimited...with an all star broadcast crew of anish, ryan and dana.
i'll be there. as a fan. because lacrosse is lacrosse. from a faceoff to offense and defense and goaltending. i know i promote lax in the olympics all the time and you’re probably rolling your eyes but 3 billion people around the world watched the last summer games in paris and over 20 million americans woke up at 8am last sunday to watch usa canada hockey on nbc. I just care about more people seeing this amazing sport. america’s first game. more people will watch it in a couple summers from now than ever before in history. yes, it’s sixes. but at least give it a shot…i think more people, more brands and more support will head towards all formats of the game as a result of la28. from men to women to 10s to box to sixes. and you are leading us in that charge.
so i owe you a thank you. even to everyone at nocontext rbrowny and ghettogarygait. i’m not exclusively beyond meat btw i had a 52 oz tomahawk steak last night w my athletic brew and thought of how much I get made fun of for this and various things. so I washed it down with a whiskey.
being a small part of a game much bigger than me is the honor of a lifetime. hope you enjoy the champ series.
