Spot on, Brendan! For generations, the club has been a lifeline for young people in North Belfast, offering opportunity, structure, and hope through difficult times. It’s long past time that work was properly backed with a permanent home to build from.

Birney was a peer of my 3xGGf—they were shoemakers on Church Lane, Birney was godfather to his son, and he managed Birney’s North St shop in the late 1870s. If Birney’s tied to Oakley Pk, I can rule out a Cootehill family link I’ve been chasing.
