Quick story about my brother Jake: Every year, our parents would pack the four of us boys into the car and drive down to Florida for spring break. One morning during one of those vacations, I remember being shaken awake by my little brother. He wanted to go for a run on the beach. There he was, just 9 or 10 years old, asking his big brother to run sprints on the sand—during vacation. Jake is not an overnight success story. The title of “hard-working” is not a new one for him. He set a goal to play football at Northwestern University and worked relentlessly to make it happen. I am proud beyond words of my little brother. I may be biased, and I know there are stories like Jake’s across the Big Ten, but I’ve had the privilege of a front-row seat to his journey. From where I’m sitting, Jake absolutely deserves this recognition and this nomination. For Jake, it was never about the touchdowns, the tackles, or the glory. He loves the grind. He loves the game.

Most Underappreciated Hawkeye on Offense: Jacob Gill @jacobagill1 This kid blocks his absolute ass off and is a menace, he's as selfless as they come, he's been getting more comfortable and better in the passing game. He always carries a great attitude and vibe. It's only a matter of time before he has a big statistical game. But, he impacts the game FAR more than statistically. The success of Kaleb Johnson runs through himself, and the OL traditionally, but the leadership and blocking from the WRs starting with Jacob Gill has been a big part of it too. Every team needs a Jacob Gill, and I'm damn proud the HAWKEYES do.
