I was given the opportunity to play Empulse early at a creator demo capture event. Empulse is a new 6v6 movement shooter made by the same developers as Splitgate. Here are some of my first impressions of the game so far! • The movement is INSANE. Some of the fastest and smoothest movement I've seen in a game, but I like it a lot because you have to really utilize the wall running, grapple hooks, and equipment to go faster and faster. But you can get to some INSANE speeds if you chain things properly. • Gunplay feels GREAT.... just like with Splitgate, everything feels really smooth. TTK is solid. Slow enough that gunfights actually exist, but not as slow as Splitgate. • Mechs are fun and never felt annoying. These definitely take inspiration from Titanfall, but I love how there's never more than 1 or 2 on the map at a time, and they are usually pretty easy to avoid if you learn the maps well. • Maps are GREAT! They are all visually very diverse but also play extremely well with LOTS of verticality. • The game modes are what you would expect. Team Deathmatch, Control, Upload (Uplink equivalent), and even a mode called Capture the Mech which is basically Capture the Flag but with Mechs instead. • The P.A.I.N.T. Bombs are REALLY fun. They are very balanced because it felt like all of them had an individual use. There's one that heals you if you throw it at yourself, one that damages players, one that gives you a speed boost, one that gives you a jump boost, and one that slows players down if they get stuck in it. • The Create-a-Class is a very simple system, similar to Call of Duty. 3 Perks, a few attachments per gun, etc. So far, it seems well balanced. One of the perks is specifically tied to your mech. • The game won't be Free-to-Play, it will cost $19.99, but this means the game won't launch with any MTX. All cosmetics are earnable for free in-game. I honestly don't have any negatives aside from the Hammer being a little OP. I really enjoyed what I played! Feels like the perfect movement shooter. I just hope it's updated well. You can play it NOW through the Steam Next Fest, but the game itself goes live in early access stage on June 24th. Thanks to @1047Games for the invite!
