@shylockh The artwork today might be both inspiring and accessible to some kids because it looks like it’s something that they could make themselves…. and back to money for a moment, the book deals back then may have just been better?

@shylockh I did find kids book illustrations from earlier years very inspirational. But they weren’t very accessible. I knew I had to put in years of effort, money and practice in order to attain that level of skill.

A strange trend in children's books is the dumbing down of their illustrations. At some point, the norm arose that illustrations in books *for* children should look like they were done *by* children. Compare Maurice Sendak, where each page was a painting, with Rebecca Cobb.

This is really how it used to be. Really. Our nation, and now our world, is in its current state literally because of one psychopath. If Cruz won the 2016 primaries we still would have seen plenty of stupid, but nothing like the non-stop poison of today.
