You can just do things. I’m lucky enough to live close to an incredible little park that has been adopted by local volunteers. On Saturday we removed a metal shutter that’s been in place for 30 years and installed a new window. One of many such micro-projects undertaken every year. There are lots of skilled people out there, who by dedicating just one day a month can really help improve their local community. There really is a need for: 1) Matching volunteers with local projects 2) Communicating this need and the outcomes 3) Councils cutting the red tape and allowing locals to just get on with it Makes me wonder if there is a framework that could be developed and shared with local councils.

Today ICON launches its interim report, Think Neighbourhoods. The report identifies 613 ‘mission critical’ neighbourhoods that have around 1 million people living in them and furthest away from progress on government missions. We need to target support at these areas so that they can be mission ready and make progress on the government’s agenda. Employment by central government, local government, and public corporations since 1949 in Britain. Just did the 2024 update. What a huge change in the composition of the state. I have some very political views about the big changes, but I'll leave them for another thread.

As we reach the end of 2024, we're celebrating the community-led activity supported in parks this year! From hip hop workshops to community planting days, more than 350 volunteer hours have been given to connect 2,300 residents to their local park. With thanks to @HeritageFundUK
