He’s right. Middle class people dictate the conversation and won’t even let anyone from a working class background speak about their reality without being derided. It actually disgusts me bc it’s so indicative of how much we hate the poor with passion in this country.
nass@nasscrave

One thing about this country is that we're severely addicted to punching down. God forbid you're poor, in part-time work or unemployed and dare to suggest the wage of your 'betters' would be life-changing

@ShaneDollards @nasscrave Around 40% of UK full time workers earn less than £35K. For one in three people, this is 115% or more of their current earnings. For one in ten people, this is 145% or more. A salary jump to £35K would be genuinely transformative for a large share of the UK workforce.

This season of The Labour Party is looking a lot like Game of Thrones s8, soon to be forgotten and leaving us all frustrated the writers couldn’t have done a better job.

@StaycMaria (Just for clarity) I’m massively in favour of higher salaries for those on under £60k as I do think the UK is underpaid as a whole, I just think there’s a London-skewed mindset that anyone on £35k and below is on the poverty line and it’s not true for all

@StaycMaria You could very easily live on 35k in parts of Birmingham as a childless person alone (caveat that this is from the view of a person renting without kids but with a dog)

Can these people not understand a single fucking thing? The policy *does not* limit how much a CEO can be paid. It limits how little the lowest earners can be paid, in relation to the CEO.
Lin Mei@linmeitalks

If the max you can earn in the UK as a CEO is around £200k annually because of the Green Party policy - there will be minimal tax collected, so how will the Greens fund their expensive policies??? Whoever is voting Greens needs their head testing. There will be no money for anything!

@juiceterry87 @Ceepz @lowerformofwit 35k is a really decent salary for most (in Birmingham/West mids definitely), I’ve had 3 pay rises in 3 years and a promotion to my current job and I’m on just under £30k for a semi-skilled digital operations job, it’s more than I’ve ever earned and I have a FTC

@Ceepz @lowerformofwit Sorry this is not really true, £35k is not seen as a considerable salary outside of London either

I think there’s always a regionality factor when it comes to perceptions of salary too. Outside of London £35k is seen as considerable, inside of London it is F all lol. Think we underestimate just how poor and wage suppressed other parts of the U.K. are.

HMRC lost £500bn last year due to the richest avoiding tax. That's enough to re-arm the country and build 100 new hospitals with 50,000 new nurses. Why do the rich hate this country?
