Of course, the EU’s future regulatory decisions will miss trademark British pragmatism in the meantime, which is the real tragedy of Brexit, including for all of Europe’s trading partners. The Single Market was after all a British idea (Lord Cockfield).

If rejoining only possible on the longer term, “rejoiners” near term objective should be to maintain regulatory alignment. If there was perfect alignment up to the moment Britain left, this shouldn’t be so hard and would facilitate intermediate Norway-style relationships.
