C’est la première fois qu’un animal d’élevage destiné à la consommation humaine obtient l’accord des autorités sanitaires (Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments et Santé Canada) à la suite d’une manipulation génétique. Un saumon génétiquement modifié avait été autorisé en 2016 au Canada, mais il n’est plus commercialisé, faute d’acheteurs.
duBreton, leader nord-américain du porc biologique (basé à Saint-Bernard-de-Beauce, Québec), s'oppose fermement à l'absence d'étiquetage obligatoire et défend la transparence totale pour les consommateurs.
Réaction immédiate à l'approbation de Santé Canada (janvier 2026)
L'entreprise dénonce la décision d'autoriser la viande de porcs édités génétiquement (résistants au virus SRRP/VSDRP) sans obligation d'étiquetage.
Vincent Breton, président, affirme que cela ignore les préoccupations des Canadiens sur la transparence et que "moins que cela est trompeur".
Engagement concret : duBreton annonce un étiquetage volontaire sur certains produits biologiques avec la mention « Vérifié sans clonage ni édition génétique ».

Appel répété à un étiquetage obligatoire pour tout porc édité génétiquement (domestique ou importé) auprès de Santé Canada, ACIA, FDA et USDA.
Demande d'un cadre réglementaire distinct pour séparer ces produits du porc conventionnel/bio.
Exhortation aux organismes de certification (bien-être animal, bio) à interdire explicitement le porc édité génétiquement dans leurs normes.
Argument principal :
Ces technologies ne sont pas compatibles avec l'agriculture biologique, le bien-être animal élevé et la confiance des consommateurs.
duBreton revendique obtenir les mêmes résultats (santé animale, moins d'antibiotiques) via des méthodes naturelles depuis des décennies.
En résumé : duBreton est contre l'intégration sans transparence de ces porcs dans la chaîne alimentaire, priorise le choix du consommateur et agit concrètement via son propre étiquetage sans édition génétique pour se différencier.
C'est cohérent avec leur identité bio et Certified Humane®.
