@BestPaulSays This is only an opinion, but it could be that it took time to get the aircraft carriers in place.

I have to admit, I didn’t think Trump was ever going to attack Iran, he looked to only want a deal, and a lot of Iranians died before that.. I’m glad it’s happening, but why couldn’t it have been done sooner, when he told them to take to the streets helps coming?

@daveainsworth63 @TalkingPicsTV Saw this last year; superb and made me nostalgic for the New Romantic era. Cameos from Gary Numan, Simon Le Bon, the Human League and Tony Hadley. The song at the end is terrific too and could have been a hit if released in the early 80s. VCR at the ready.

@TheCyberdevil The trouble is, the BBC never has faith in their own genre shows. Look at the list over the last twenty-five years and then notice how many were axed unfinished. Also, reboots reveal a lack of bravery or a lack of ideas for something new.

@BestPaulSays I know nothing about military strategy, but something appears to be afoot …

@MagesGuildOrg Been listening to McGann’s Big Finish stuff since I found Storm Warning in HMV in Oxford Street in 2001. Such a shame one of the best Doctors has so little screen time. Eighth Doctor Big Finish is practically all I buy now.

Happy New Year to everyone in the USA! Doctor Who: The TV Movie, starring Paul McGann, which takes place on New Year's Eve 1999, and is now celebrating its 30th Anniversary.

@BestPaulSays IIRC BBC Four showed this a few years ago. I knew it wasn’t very good, but I wasn’t prepared for how bad it actually was.

@BestPaulSays @YouTube I recommend his podcast What Most People think, which has been going on for around six years. The ones where he had Simon Evans guesting are particularly good.

@BestPaulSays My memory of this was getting up for my paper round and hearing the news on Radio One (very early morning). I forget who the DJ was, but they kept playing excerpts from a (then) recent interview with Lennon that Andy Peebles had done.

I remember the night they announced John Lennon’s death. In 1980 BBC 2 used to tell people programming was coming to a close at Midnight, and to switch off your set. Followed by the National Anthem. But that night they announced his death and played In My Life.

@BestPaulSays One Doctor Who link: when he joined the studio they had just finished Dalek Invasion Earth: 2150AD. He saw the Daleks in a skip.

@BestPaulSays IIRC in 1969/70 the American money pulled out of Shepperton and so my dad was laid off. Years later, doing a summer job with my dad, I met a couple of carpenters who worked on James Bond films around the same time my dad was at Shepperton.

@BestPaulSays He worked at Shepperton studios in the late 1960’s. Biggest film he worked on was the musical Oliver.

Yes the 90s were a better time, but we forget that there had been a housing market crash, widespread mortgage negative equity and I was only able to buy my first flat cheaply because someone else had had it repossessed.

If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal. If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist. If you believe the state should punish those with contrary views, you're a totalitarian. If you believe political opponents should be punished with violence or death, you're a terrorist.
