@Garnet_2203 My family just experienced Maid with a loved one. We are so grateful that it was an option. It was our relative's decision. He was terminal and in so much pain. We had the chance to have a wonderful last precious moment with him and then he passed peacefully.

Until you’ve sat beside your mother as a terminal illness slowly takes everything from her, you don’t get to judge this conversation. During the pandemic, my 88-year-old mom was dying of lung cancer. She was in pain. She was bedridden. She lost her independence, her voice, her dignity piece by piece. Because dementia had already begun, she couldn’t qualify for MAID. She didn’t get the choice. Being confined to a bed led to severe pressure sores exposing her spine despite care another layer of suffering no family should have to witness. We had to watch her endure when compassion should have meant options. MAID is not about “giving up.”
It’s about autonomy.
It’s about safeguards.
It’s about allowing mentally capable adults to decide when enough is enough. Learn what it actually is before condemning the people who have lived it.

@conwarren @meyer_lucas @CBCNews That father and his anguish will live in perpetuity now in public domain. To me… @CBC took advantage of his vulnerability at the worst time in his life. We do not need to see people laid bare to comprehend the magnitude of this tragedy.

Heartbreaking interview on The National with dad Dennis Campbell, whose daughter was in the school. In one breath, he speaks of the support Tumbler Ridge has gotten, while in the next, breaks down on how much of a nightmare it is. And good on CBC for not beeping the swearing.
