The new Jim Crow will be defeated like the old Jim Crow. We were tired then, but not defeated. We are tired now, but we will not be defeated. Weeping may endure for a night, but the morning is coming.

If Black voters and Black voices aren’t considered meaningful enough to fairly represent the South, then maybe we should reconsider representing the South on the football field and basketball court too. .@SEC , don’t stay silent in the face of Jim Crow 2.0. Because once you open Pandora’s box, all kinds of things come out of it. The same Duffys who threw endless fits on national television when Pete was working from our son's ICU bedside are now bragging about their multi-month, taxpayer-funded family road trip while gas and grocery prices soar for American families because of Trump's war of choice. How much more unfocused, unserious, and out of touch can you be?

Two last things before I shut up about this (I'm very annoyed, as you can tell). 1. This is a sad day for the legitimacy of our legal system. The Florida constitution explicitly says you can't gerrymander for partisan reasons, but everyone says they're all DeSantis stooges so they're just going to ignore it. But in Virginia, when the VOTERS FREAKING VOTED on a referendum, it's going to get thrown out on a technicality post hoc. This is not a system where rules are applied uniformly, and people have the right to be frustrated at this double standard.

No vote in Tennessee (+1 GOP) No vote in Florida (+4 GOP) No vote in Missouri (+1 GOP) No vote in North Carolina (+2 GOP) No vote in Texas (+5 GOP) Virginia’s voter-approved maps thrown out. MAGA has rigged the system.

There is no clearer case for the necessity of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 than how quickly southern states moved to eliminate Black-majority districts and dilute Black power after SCOTUS eroded Section 2. SCOTUS’s reasoning was immediately disproven by reality.

When I say the country is institutionally rigged for Republicans I’m talking about how Virginia gets their maps struck down after a two year process involving multiple legislative sessions and a statewide referendum but Tennessee can just decide not to enfranchise Memphis anymore

BREAKING: Virginia Supreme Court throws out redistricting referendum results So to be sure, US Supreme Court says Red states can ignore the will of the people and gerrymander their districts 9-0 in favor of MAGA Republicans But VA Supreme Court says Blue states cannot put the vote to the will of the people and follow through on the people's vote to redistrict. Once again, gerrymandering that centers white people is A-OK but gerrymandering that centers a broad base of voters is not. Absurd.

It is terrible. That’s why Ida B Wells, who witnessed the rise of Jim Crow said “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” Civil rights are never permanently won. Each generation must do their part.

I’m so angry at what’s about to happen to Black folks in the former Confederacy. To be further disenfranchised. To live, again, in a state of unrepresentation. To be policed by laws you can’t influence.

Expand the court.
