It's usually how i find inspiration to be honest. I find a game, start playing it, then ask myself "Am i having FUN?" and then when the answer in 9 out of 10 cases is no i just try to find a way to make it fun for me and go off that. This for instance is Master of Magic

Most people don't have fun playing video games and it shows. It's not a modern issue either, people just naturally become addicted to reward loops. And because of that, the majority of developers don't develop games to BE fun either. Exceptions apply, but very few.
