When we think of “care”, we think of single moms, housekeepers, teachers, nurses – and the often unseen work they do that holds our world together. Introducing #TheRealEconomy campaign, where we celebrate the people who make everything possible. bit.ly/TheRealEconomy

They didn't think a woman could do it. Coach Desiree Ellis proved them wrong – leading @Banyana_Banyana to their first-ever #AFCON title in 2022. Breaking through in a male-dominated space. Making history. Opening doors. Women have always had to do extraordinary things just to get the recognition they deserve. When she's not checking on players' mental health or making sure they're connected with family. Desiree Ellis is giving back to her community. She embodies what it means to care – for her team, for her community, for the next generation. That's not just kindness. Behind every champion is care work you don't see. The team behind the team. The infrastructure that makes winning possible. That is #TheRealEconomy #AFCON

Meet Mogale Mohale. Fitness influencer, father, and faith leader using his platform to redefine what strength really means. While most men are flexing muscles online, Mogale's asking harder questions: What kind of men are we raising? What legacy are we leaving behind? Here's what he knows: in South Africa, a woman is killed every 2.5 hours. Most by men they know. Men who were once someone's son. "I'm raising my kids in a way that I know when they grow up, there's no woman is going to cry about them putting their hands on them." Real masculinity isn't about dominance. It's about accountability. It's about recognising that your freedom—your career, your gym time, your success—is built on care work. Someone's watching your kids. Someone's cleaning your space. Someone's making your life possible. If you don't see that as capital, you're not paying attention. #TheRealEconomy #CareIsCapital

We often don't consider how accessible our world is for able-bodied people. No lift? We'll take the stairs. But many people with disabilities can't participate in our economy simply because spaces aren't accessible. Thami Mankenkeza is committed to changing this. Through his organisation Wheels Of Change, he's making sure disability never means invisibility. This is #TheRealEconomy #InternationalDayOfPersonswithDisabilities

Meet @iamSivN. Award-winning actor, comedian, and philanthropist. Few men in the public arena are as vocal and unflinching in speaking out against gender-based violence. Siv uses his platform to call men to account, because he understands that women cannot keep fighting this battle alone. Here’s the deadly truth: in South Africa, a woman is killed every 2.5 hours, fifteen every day, mostly by men they know. As we remember the thousands of women who have been murdered in this country, and the millions across the world who still live in fear - even in their own homes - we’re reminded of Siv’s words: “We’re not angry enough. There should be no justice if there is no safety for women.” Learn more about Siv’s story at bit.ly/RealEconomy. #TheRealEconomy #CareIsCapital #16DaysOfActivism

Nah @crtvedevelop slapped with these. Some of these advocacy jargon REALLY need to be left in 2025 🤣🤣🤣. Everytime I hear “theory of change” in a meeting I want to slit my writs🤣🕊️🕊️

We tell little girls that they can grow up to be anything they want, they can be leaders, but have we truly been honest about the conditions required for a woman to occupy the role? According to McKinsey, 43% of women leaders are burned out (vs 31% of men), and more than half say they plan to leave their organisations within the next two years - not because they’re incompetent or uninterested, but because leadership structures were built for men with wives, not women with lives outside of their careers. We say we want women leaders. Our systems say otherwise. So this begs the question: What do women have to sacrifice to be successful leaders? #TheRealEconomy

Meet Prof. Narnia Bohler-Muller, Head of Delegation to the Women’s 20, fighting to put women’s economic power, care work, and financial inclusion at the center of #G20SouthAfrica - the first ever on African soil. As a gender equality and human rights lawyer, she has spent her life caring for the rights and dignity of women - at a cost few people will ever know or see. (1/2)

Across the world, women migrate to provide care and end up exploited in hidden labour. Investing in decent work and care systems protects them – and powers economies. Ending modern slavery begins with valuing care. #W20SouthAfrica #G20LeadersWeek #EndModernSlavery #W20SA

We wonder why leadership lacks care. Because we designed it to exclude women.

When you meet Tshwarelo Mkhabela, the first thing that stands out is her beaming optimism. That's the same energy she brings to her classroom every day. Teachers don't just show up to get a job done. They do so much more. That's what care looks like. She is the face of the Real Economy. Tag a teacher who changed your life. #TheRealEconomy #CareIsCapital #teachersofx
