@VictoriaGiarra1 @zotero Cell is switching their citation format to unify it across all Cell family journals (and to follow a superscript numeric style). The request to change this came directly from the Cell editorial office. The updated style is correct.

2/2 Most ref managers don't have support for the new variables/terms yet, but most CSL citation processors are compatible with 1.0.2, and you can use 1.0.2 data e.g. in YAML or JSON form with citeproc-pandoc or using Extra in Zotero

@Videlais @noahwf @zotero This would typically be in the context of a full citation style -- is _Game Studies_ adopting these recommendations? Doesn't look like we have a GS style at all, so could create one with specific game citation built in.
In foreseeable future wld still be "Software" in Zotero tho

@csl_styles @noahwf @zotero Makes sense! That was my understanding of it, too. As a stepping stone to getting, say, MLA or APA to support a standard for games, a new style for Zotero could be written for others to import and use based on the proposed recommendations of the paper.

Really like this! Would love to see major styles take up a consistent pattern for citing games. Could also see someone writing a Zotero style (zotero.org/styles) to cover some of this as well.

@noahwf @Videlais @zotero CSL is the official repository: zotero.org/styles is a quasi-realtime mirror of our repository.
Adding new item types is significantly more complicated than adding new styles, though.

@Videlais That would be so great! I currently use the #zotero "Software" citation style in a weird way, but having something officially supported by @zotero would be a big plus

We’ve just added built-in citation support to GitHub so researchers and scientists can more easily receive acknowledgments for their contributions to software.
Just push a CITATION.cff file and we’ll add a handy widget to the repo sidebar for you.
