This isn’t to say that the health of the party depends on one person. My concern is that the post merger CPC requires a leader who understands and can speak for western Canadians, fiscal conservatives, social conservatives and increasingly, young working people. Those wanting a leadership change seem to want to pursue a strategy that would surely alienate these types of party members and conservative voters. And I think that would ultimately lead to the fracturing of the party.

I genuinely believe that a Poilievre departure would very likely result in the party splitting.

This is common sense, Canadians cannot afford the costs.

Today we remember the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in which Canadian soldiers, under the command of our future Governor General Lord Byng, achieved a great victory. Lest we forget.

Mark Carney is seizing a costly Liberal majority that voters denied him, and doing so through backroom deals. In January, MP Gladu said that floor crossers should face voters in a byelection to give voters the final say. I could not agree more. She should do so. The people in her community voted for our Conservative vision of a Canada that is affordable, safe, and strong at home, not for the costly Liberal government she has now joined. She should honour her word and let voters decide.

At McMaster University’s Centre for Advanced Nuclear Systems, I met with Nikki Walton, Manager of Strategic Nuclear Initiatives to learn more about the centre’s work advancing nuclear research and safety. CANS brings together world-class facilities focused on nuclear materials, reactor safety, and radiation science — including specialized labs that examine how materials behave after exposure inside a reactor. Thank you to Nikki and the team at @mcmasteru for the insightful discussion and for the important work they are doing to strengthen Canada’s leadership in nuclear research.

Home to some of the most advanced microscopes in the world, the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy at @mcmasteru enables researchers to study materials down to the atomic level—supporting innovations in clean energy, semiconductors, and nuclear materials. Thank you to Dr. Bassim and the team at @ccem_canada for the fascinating tour and for the important research being conducted right here in Canada.

I had a productive meeting with Evan Romanow, Alberta’s Deputy Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and RJ Melnichuk the Chief of Staff of Mental Health and Addictions for Alberta. We spoke about the importance of mental health services, the Alberta Recovery Model, and the benefits of psilocybin assisted therapy. Canada must have strong mental health services in place!

I had the opportunity to visit the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster University and meet with Scientific Director Matthew Miller. The institute brings together a remarkable team of researchers working across disciplines to develop new treatments, vaccines, and tools to combat infectious diseases. Thank you to Dr. Miller and his team for showcasing their cutting-edge work — including promising research on next-generation inhaled vaccines and innovative drug discovery technologies.
