@latimes this is ok coverage of control burns but an attention grabbing and damaging title. Like 99% of control burns this was a safe and successful. obv sad to see two giant sequoias damaged but that's a footnote to what will happen without burns latimes.com/california/sto…

It's really depressing to see neighbors avidly oppose safe biking infrastructure in Berkeley of all places. Save Hopkins is really "save parking". Ask any bike commuter or city planner, protected bike lanes make people safer. Live your espoused values please.

Does anyone know what the total water storage capacity of all degraded Sierra meadows is? same for carbon sink capacity? Some great work on why meadows matter (water/carbon) and natural infra in CA, but hard to find estimates of the scale of the solution. youtu.be/Sy-gin77GSk

I'm increasingly convinced that voluntary carbon offset markets make sense if beneficiaries being served are low income and the use of proceeds of the offset is to subsidize the upfront cost of acquiring a good or service: biodigester, clean cookstove, EV, solar etc. Reactions?

Very annoying how media is talking about California's recent rain storms. Either a "crippling" drought or a "devastating" rain. The history of CA weather is dramatic swings. Yes they have gotten worse but expectation should be drought or deluge and we should plan accordingly.

@Scott_Wiener I completely agree. Now we need decade long, consistent support. Building the first of anything costs a lot. The federal government should foot the bill of CA driving down the cost curve on high speed rail in the US and CA should pay to have modern intercity transit.

It's so easy to believe that every economic headwind will quickly subside and every tail wind will never end. Good rule of thumb seems to be double your expectation for how long hard times will last and quarter your expectation for how long good times will last.
