And the debt argument? Old news. China’s rail assets are over $1.3 trillion now, and the debt-to-asset ratio has actually been dropping for years.Beijing to Shanghai alone made over $1.4 billion profit in the first three quarters of last year. Most high-speed rail networks globally lose money — Japan, France, Germany, you name it. Only a handful of routes break even anywhere.
Also, that “engineers say they wouldn’t ride” line with zero name or source? Come on. That’s just bait.
Look, no system is perfect. But Chinese HSR moves billions of people yearly with near-zero fatalities since 2011. That’s not “cracks showing.” That’s an insane safety record most countries would kill for.
