ETHCC 2026 recap: DeFi on an employment crisis
great weather, great events, great vibes, but the landscape is shrinking and money is drying out
going straight from NYC DAS to ETHCC, it is clear to me that DeFi is living an identity crisis on multiple fronts
gone are the protocols run events where all their users go to feast at the expense of the treasury - in are the multi-hosted gatherings where most builders go all together but where you also meet the same people
villas hosted by the few protocols that fundraised in 2025 and are still growing or soon to launch were the highlight of this year. the meta was less beach-front venues, more curated and researched places
you look around for your friends that came last year, and notice always the same faces from the last ethcc - while some of the usual faces are gone and not seen any longer.
events are curated but you can see they net is cast much larger because you can’t fill a space being hyper selective.
places this year are smaller and the hyped events are not huge venues but small curated terraces very quickly at capacity
about DeFi now, what’s clear like the cannes sky is that many of our frens are still around but they are looking for what their next chapter is going to look like.
layoffs have hit the community with sparse victims, with chains and daos closing the faucets of infinite money
i tell people i work in defi since 4+ years and the looks are not anymore of excitement but if surprise: the OGs are gone from the industry and almost everyone around is a new participant that came around recently and has no memory of what it once was
the question they all these people have is: what’s next for our industry? defi founders and people with cool ideas are not the cool thing anymore, at least here in cannes, if we exclude the few hackathons that were not oversubscribed for sure but still manifested great ideas and use cases
many defi projects sold or got acquired by corporate entities that are keeping the builders around but run on a different dream that the original founders dreams - but this is probably the bright side of the changes with merger and acquisitions keeping the light on on those long term builders
so what about our frens in search for a new adventure?
europe is DeFi. and defi needs europeans.
DAS was full of suits having a job in tradfi working on adoption
Cannes was full of DeFi builders and believers wondering what’s next for us
tokenization is not the answer to everything, but it’s definitely leading the current narrative of tokenizing everything, and to work with institutions or companies that can help the industry scale
defi is alive but in a rough shape, and we need to make sure our friends find a way to reinvent themselves.
long live defi, let’s keep it alive and let’s keep growing defi in europe

@blue_clarity @AlsieLC interesting, which qualities do you want to match against at a conference?
English

@MarcellineMedia @ParisBlockWeek enough france for this year, we go to @eth_milano next, the last bastion of DeFi conferences under the sun for the rest of 2026

@DavideFi Next is @ParisBlockWeek for me! Anyone else going?

@DavideFi È stato un piacere! Spero rincontrarti presto Davide!

@Wasiutynski yeah the few events full of builders were forcefully smaller in size due to the desire of them all to meet at the same places, leave the other events quite empty of real buildors

Monad Foundry 3.3 day 10 - the end of an amazing experience
being surrounded by founders is the most energetic thing a builder can experience and it has been amazing to witness a love chain trying their best to let their projects find a place on the monad ecosystem
from demodays with each participants roasting one another, to the in-depth session on gtm, ugc and node-tech
this is a vision of web3 where projects are not just anons on the chain but founders building the future of onchain products in ai, defi, payments, and derivatives
from fundraising to (hopefully soon) launching their tokens, foundry was a great canvas for anyone to discuss and meditate on their decks and roadmap
happy of having lived this unique cohort, and proud of having made my dent in this experience by documenting the journey for all of us here earning a mention on the closing remarks
hope to meet you all again at the next conference around the world, and good luck to all foundry 3.3 participants with your projects and dreams!

Monad Foundry Demo-Day 9
Today is the culmination day where selected projects that have attended foundry over the past 2 weeks get the chance to pitch in a room packed with investors here in NYC
in presentation order, here is what these projects are doing
@Trendle is a prediction market that tracks what people talk about, on platforms like X, reddit and youtube. Ride the effect of Bryan Johnson making peptides the trend of the week by longing both topics.
@overtake_games wants to make GenZ gamers hooked to skill based mobile games that users can create and earn on, battle in clan wars, and make clips about their matches
@memetok_app introduces “scroll-trading”. Offering to trade all attention assets, you can find what other people are trading on the feed and see content they generate working for their bags.
@voxlstudios wants to modernize creator economies in gaming, putting onchain an entire marketplace of voxel-based content (worlds, objects, experiences) created by users for users directly in game
@blinqfi bringing capital efficiency to prediction market, unlocking derivatives trading on prediction events volatility. You can leverage a micro movement on polymarket turning it into a major sort term event
@facto_to wants to make idle money in your check balance work for you. modern crypto cards don’t use defi composability. facto unlocks defi for your balances - which generate yield on places like aave while being available to be spent whenever u need it
congrats to anyone that came here that got this opportunity, with many more projects attending the 2 weeks foundry that weren’t on stage but still got to live this whole experience

man @charcoded is so italian he can dominate a trading competition in NYC eating pizza with two hands while trading with the third leg

imagine a room filled with all the top VC of NYC, here just for you and people like you ready to listen to what you are building and wiling to give priceless advises on how to keep growing.
if you want to get attention, Monad Foundry was the opportunity that u were waiting for.
tonight is the happy hour with investors, before the demo day on thursday
the next big monad projects are brewing within these walls and they have all eyes on them
