@MartinSLewis For a bizarre reason, any posts that include something about a disease triggers a load of backlash (incl. many bots I'm sure).

I can't believe some of the responses to this post. I had no clue I was stepping into anything! I was interested in the symptoms list of a disease in the news, not making a political point.

I was just reading about the cases of invasive invasive meningococcal disease in Kent. I noticed this early symptoms list and thought it may be worth sharing... "The onset of illness is often sudden and early diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics are vital. Early symptoms, which may not always be present, include: - a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass - sudden onset of high fever - severe and worsening headache - stiff neck - vomiting and diarrhoea - joint and muscle pain - dislike of bright lights - very cold hands and feet - seizures - confusion/delirium - extreme sleepiness/difficulty waking This came from this page where there is more... gov.uk/government/new…

Exactly what my book 'How Not to Die (too soon) is about' but Americans don't like to hear that not everything is under their individual control. And that community and society matters a great deal for their health. Many would rather just buy another supplement.

Why hasn't life expectancy been increasing in the United States? It's complicated. "The fact that the United States is far from a leader in longevity and that it continues to fall further behind nearly all other high-income countries indicates that there are societal factors operating to hold back life expectancy potential even if biological constraints are at play." pnas.org/doi/full/10.10…

“Will you see it go viral on socials? No. Will it get sponsored by a supplement company? No. Will it increase your healthy life expectancy and make you feel happier? Public health evidence suggests yes.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Just finished “How Not to Die (Too Soon)” by @devisridhar and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have this as *mandatory reading* before anyone steps into parliament! Thanks to Hertfordshire Libraries for the book, well worth the 99p request fee. 📚 🙏 🧡

Less than 2 months until the paperback is out. It's a great read for intro public health courses or if you want to understand what public health is and why it matters. Pre-order here: penguin.co.uk/books/458539/h…

Nice one by Devi Sridhar: theguardian.com/commentisfree/… "Trump has pulled the US out of the World Health Organization – here’s why that’s sheer hypocrisy."
