In the United States military, we leave no American behind.

And this all is exactly what might set me on my "desert arc." It's painful to be near family that doesn't want you. Upstate NY is a hard place to live anyway, and without strong family ties, it's just plain dark and lonesome. Anyway, the arid West is in my blood. Mormon settlers and Idaho goat-ropers on one side, a grandmother from West Texas on the other, and I myself was born in Southern California. I am also a direct descendant of Buffalo Bill. I know well that somewhere between El Paso and Yuma, there's a Parish Church for us and a little patch of sand we could call home. And I know if I take my family into the desert, by the prayers of St Charles de Foucauld we might find some peace and find a way to serve the Lord. Though it is true that "you can just do things," sometimes it's best to wait to do things until given a reason to do them; let it fit the storyline a little, only move once you're sure.
