Teaching might not pay much, but what they don’t tell you is how much change you’ll find on the floor What’s the wildest thing you ever found left behind in your classroom? And what did you do with it?

I swear in the name of all that is Holy every class that doesn’t have desks in rows would have better outcomes if they did. This is the lowest hanging fruit there is. No kid does better looking at 3-4 classmates and shoved next to them all day. The level of unnecessary learning loss and disruption is off the charts. And the struggling kids are hurt most. Parents have got to pay attention to this.

@dillpickleclass There has to be a pendulum shift to make our work sustainable for those in the profession and enticing for young educated professionals contemplating this career. The demands and challenges of the job seem a world apart from when I started 20 years ago.

English teachers should have an additional prep period for reading and providing feedback on student writing. It takes over 8 hours for a writing teacher with 100 students to read and respond to a typical set of essays - and that's assuming only 5 minutes per essay. #bfc530
