Google users can now change their @gmail.com username. If your app keys users by email, this can quietly break sign-in. If you use Sign in with Google, stop treating email as identity. Use the stable `sub` (subject ID) as the primary key, support email updates, and add email-based account recovery to avoid duplicate accounts / “lost data” after OAuth grants get revoked. developers.googleblog.com/supporting-goo…

A bit sad to see Firebase Studio sunset. The concept (web IDE + agents across the full lifecycle) was genuinely great. That said, consolidating into clearer homes makes sense: AI Studio for prompt→app + Firebase integrations, and Antigravity for the agent-first IDE workflow.

Deep links to recipe sites + lightweight AI summaries is the right tradeoff: users get faster inspiration, and creators still get traffic + attribution. I run @icooktw (Taiwan’s largest recipe community/app) and this kind of routing layer is exactly what we want to see as AI UI becomes the default.

We've heard feedback on recipe results in AI Mode, and we’re making updates to better connect people with recipe creators on the web. Starting today, when you search for meal ideas like “easy dinners for two,” you can tap on the dish to see links to relevant recipe sites, plus a short overview of the dish to help with inspiration. We're also planning to bring helpful information like cook time to more recipe results, which testers have found useful for deciding on a recipe. We know there's more work to be done on this, so stay tuned for future updates.

AI bots are flooding the gates: 1 in every 31 human visits is now an AI bot (up from 1 in 200). Most alarming data from @TollbitOfficial: licensing doesn't fix the CTR bleed. Google just removed Unified Pricing Rules (UPR) from Google Ad Manager. Publishers can once again set different floor prices by deal type and buyer (including Google demand). Years ago, many of us warned UPR would limit yield control. Turns out those concerns weren’t wrong. A rare case where regulation is clearly reshaping adtech rules.

Facebook Messenger’s macOS desktop app is officially gone (Dec 15). Electron → React Native (50% faster load, −100MB binary) → Apple Catalyst → discontinued. A reminder that strong tech choices don’t always survive product strategy.

Fascinating findings from @TollBit’s latest AI bot report. We @TNLmediagene are also using TollBit to analyze AI bot traffic across our network and we’re seeing similar trends: more RAG scraping, surging bot volume, and growing disregard for robots.txt.

We are excited to announce that we just published our Q1 2025 State of the Bots report, analyzing AI bot scraping trends across our publisher network today. Here are 3 key takeaways: - RAG scraping is on the rise: Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) bots scrapes now exceed Training bot scrapes across the TollBit network. RAG bot scrapes grew 49% from Q4 to Q1. - AI bot traffic nearly doubled: Among websites that had Analytics set up before January 2025, AI bot traffic volume nearly doubled in Q1, rising by 87% during the quarter. - robots.txt is being ignored: Despite more publishers trying to block bots, over 26 million AI scrapes bypassed robots.txt in March alone. The share of bots ignoring these files jumped from 3.3% to 12.9% in just one quarter.
