When I was 36, I decided to get very involved with my HOA. I was highly-motivated, well-meaning, and had great real estate experience which I was happy to share. It was the stupidness thing I’d ever done. They wanted none of it, made my life miserable, and I could barely get anything done. It was all I needed to know about politics, and quitting that HOA and selling my unit was one of the best decisions of my life.

So Harvard is both deeply tied in to the United States government, and is also reliant on foreign students and the full freight tuition they pay. Seems like a perfect recipe for building institutions with divided loyalties. Would be nice if American universities prioritized American students and interests.
