Tomorrow at 7pm EST, I will be participating in a @DCRjournal #DCRJournalClub debate regarding the role of #TaTME in rectal cancer surgery. It's an insane lineup of all-star speakers and judges, and I have no business being a part of it, but it hasn't stopped me before! We'll hear debate from experts including @patsyllamd @DavidLiskaMD @justinmaykel @TAMISYoda @caycedomarula and their arguments will be judged by legends including @ConorDelaneyMD @JamesFleshmanM1 and Neil Hyman (who intelligently avoids social media) Click here to sign up: ccf.us17.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=7b…

🚨Announcement for our next #DCRJournalClub meeting 🚨 We are excited to announce that our Nov. mtg. will be a DEBATE: a robust discussion by experts about the approaches to Low Rectal cancer, specifically abdominal vs transanal (1/2)

Surgery resident calls out grand rounds speaker and ACGME CEO for "hurtful" comments, thanks his chair and resident for support (in a weaponized manner), and demands a response/apology from the ACGME. Reposted 75 times, liked 350 times despite pretty much nobody actually knowing what the guy said (and in what context). Another surgeon who's known the speaker (and his dedication to medical education) for years comes to his defense, gets 13,000 views and a resultant 15 likes. Social media is so gross. We all assume the worst, simplify things into buckets of good and evil, make snap judgments without a shred of research, then attack people without any concern for consequences. There's a huge ripple effect (in an unpredictable manner), sometimes it blows over, sometimes people's lives are ruined, but it's irrelevant to the mob, as our attention span is short and we've already moved on to the next offending incident. Whether or not the GR speaker was truly hurtful, the way we all decide about his worth and then demand a consequence is extremely dangerous.

@RichLesperance @SeanLangenfeld Appreciate that Rich. Hope you are well. Our current culture has beaten the life out of me. I love my job in Montana- mainly because it’s just me and the patient. Very pure. The people I work with are wonderful. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be doing it much longer.

@doktrj @SeanLangenfeld Disagree (with the not being special part) - you were one of the outstanding mentors I was lucky enough to benefit from. Not everyone could do what you did…

@SeanLangenfeld Not sure that I’m anything special. Where we are as a profession is not good. It’s only getting worse. Time to move on. Pretty bad when dying is a convenient way out. I can’t imagine having to work another 20 years in this environment

It took 2 nurses and the doctor to pry my hair out of the hands of a 23 year old combative patient. And I literally can’t cannot stop my hands from shaking right now. Im so tired of this.

Once, a woman stopped me in the lobby. "I'm sorry, I can’t find the ICU.” I showed her where to go. An hour later, I was called to the room—her husband was dying from cancer. That was the day I decided to treat every person in the hospital as if it were their hardest day.

@SeanLangenfeld My invitations for everything dried up. Probably different reasons. Organizations like to move on nowadays. Now I don’t care anymore. Shift in personal priorities

After 10 years, my invitations to give talks on the dangers of social media have dried up considerably. My biggest regret is that I was never witty enough to title a talk "Maybe next time he'll think before he tweets." 🥲

Influencers are hawking whole-body MRIs while I can't get an insurance company to approve a CT abdomen for my patient with pancreatic cancer (they did, however, approve a CT pelvis🤦‍♂️) We are living in the Upside Down of medical imaging inverse.com/health/whole-b…

I was just sentenced to 1 year and 7 months incarceration for my role in the protest on January 6th, 2021. The government claimed that I stopped the certification of the election, and that my unapologetic claims of widespread voter fraud, along with my continued observation of federal agitators on 1/6, meant that I had no remorse for entering the Capitol building that day. Therefore, I needed maximum deterrence in order to keep the community safe and prevent me from continuing down this life of crime.

Biden is taking out a huge ad buy to tout his results on “Bidenomics.” Will he include that mortgage rates are at the highest level in 21 years? Will he include that we have hit $1 TRILLION in credit card debt as a nation? What about skyrocketing grocery prices? What about real wages being significantly down? Can he even fit all that into 30 seconds?

The federal response to Maui has been absolutely disgusting. The state is run by Democrats so the officials can’t criticize it for political reasons, but we all are watching a complete failure of leadership AGAIN.
