Looking forward to voting for my friend @JoshuaWPowell for SBC president. Joyful for the future of the SBC either way, but I believe he will lead us well.

SBC OPTIMISM (updated) #SBC26 I am thankful and generally enthusiastic about where we are in the SBC. I am just one man and I don’t claim to speak for anyone else.  10 reasons I am optimistic: 1. We have a strong cohort of hard-working, theologically solid, evangelistically minded pastors in churches of all sizes. Very encouraging. 2. Many of our SBC churches of all sizes are growing and multiplying. There is unprecedented interest in spiritual things right now in our country - especially from young men. I’ve never seen anything like it. Praise God! 3. Many of our state conventions are becoming stronger, more connected, more strategic, and more visible. Glad to see it. The more local the connections the better I think. 4. We have a solid confession that clarifies important doctrines and unifies us - the BF&M 2000. That document provides the boundaries of our big tent. @albertmohler’s amendment will bring greater clarity on the title, office, and function of a pastor. I’m all for it. 5. Our seminaries and mission boards are headed by clear, unapologetic conservatives. I don’t worship these guys and I disagree with them from time to time but I am thankful for every one of them. They have difficult jobs.  6. Our mission boards are doing excellent work. They are not perfect. But I believe they are effective. I am proud of their leadership and proud of the thousands of missionaries and church planters that we get to support through NAMB and IMB. 7. Our seminaries are a tremendous asset. Again - not perfect - but overall - effective. I was educated at SBTS. Almost all of our pastors at Family Church have degrees from SBC seminaries . I am grateful and supportive. 8. I do not believe the SBC has a widespread problem with feminism, liberalism, racism, sexual abuse, or women pastors. I definitely do not believe there is any large-scale “leftward drift.”   9. Every pastor I know wants to protect kids every way that we can. Every pastor I know wants to offer the gospel to every person regardless of ethnicity. There is near-universal clarity and biblical unity on gender, sexuality, and family structure. 10. If an entity leader is out of step (as some have been)? They can be corrected by their trustees. If a church is out of step (as some are)? They can be corrected at the associational, state, and national levels. Ultimately churches can be voted out. The SBC has a proven willingness to disassociate with churches (even large churches with famous pastors) in egregious and consistent violation of the BF&M2000. Must we be vigilant about articulating and guarding our conservative commitments? Absolutely. Are we perfect? Of course not.  Can we make adjustments or tweak certain things to get better? Of course. The thing I am most excited about for our Convention of churches is the unprecedented opportunity for gospel advance. It’s happening right now. We live in the greatest and freeest and most prosperous  country in the history of the world. The SBC is the greatest and most influential network of evangelical churches in the Western World. There is a highly unusual openness to spiritual things in our culture right now. And we have a powerful gospel that really saves. What a time to be alive. What a time to be Southern Baptist. What a time to serve Jesus.

@claysmith79 I grew up catholic - school and church. I think it's partly the legitimacy that people perceive in the Catholic Church. It feels ancient, established, orderly. They crave that in an A.I. world with little institutional trust in new things.

Question: I know that many young people (especially young men) are interesting in learning more about Roman Catholicism. I have a few theories why, but I'm curious as to your take. I had a middle schooler ask me about it last week, so it's definitely out there in the culture. Thoughts?

What's a scripture you hold on to but not a lot of people know about? Not Philippians 4:13. Not John 3:16. Give me the hidden gems, the ones you cherish in your heart but never see on shirts. Drop the verse below.

@kevezell @markspence02 Truly, the loyalists are modern Nehemiahs.. doing such important work.. like writing a book about, erm, noticing people (🤨) that they can't be bothered by corruption. Thankfully they do have time to belittle people angered by corruption though. x.com/dschadt/status… (8/)

@deaninserra @merelyjwright Can you imagine, Dean, how far you have to be disconnected from real life actual pastoring to not understand how much of a waste of time doing a trial like that would be? Mind boggling.

@merelyjwright They are now turning evidence over to the “jury” for a “verdict” and “damages” to be assessed. Absolutely bizarre.

This is a helpful comment. Clarifying. Notice that @NAMB_SBC can't go to court because they say so. But also they can't seriously be subject to Christian mediation either. Because that's just silly. The Company Men always play Heads I Win, Tails You Lose.
Dean Inserra@deaninserra

@merelyjwright Thanks for the K. Trustees start Monday and Tuesday and that’s when they report the info from the previous year. It was also why the timing of the mock trial/kangaroo court fest, not the other way around.

Getting 10-15K steps in per day is actually way harder than you'd expect. You have to be intentional in order to do it. Any hacks or ways some of you do this consistently?

One of the big challenges I've embraced working with @monolithmvmt is getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night. I've had 25+ years of 6-6.5 hours of sleep per night. But it's been great to get this kind of coaching and new habits.

Luke Simmons@lukedsimmons

As Holy Week begins, some encouragement for my fellow pastors... 1. It's a big week, but it's not everything. Take a deep breath, do your best, and be faithful. 2. Create a special family moment at some point. It's a very public weekend, but taking even just a few minutes to pray or celebrate as a family can make it feel less performative. 3. Do a really good version of what you normally do. It's less about creating a decisive moment and more about laying groundwork for people to return. 4. Enjoy Jesus in front of people. Some guests may not yet delight in him, but they should see that you do. 5. Love the volunteers. We should always do this, but many people give a lot of extra time to serve Jesus this weekend. Show them some love. 6. Find your inner extrovert, at least for a few hours. Shake a ton of hands, give hugs, kneel down to give high fives to kids. The people at your church want you to meet their friends, so get after it. 7. Afterward, thank your people for inviting friends. Especially celebrate those who invited somebody but the friend didn't come — those people are just as faithful, and it's worth encouraging them. 8. Rejoice with your fellow pastors. When you see that other churches had a ton of guests or baptisms or decisions, rejoice! Don't let the enemy win by giving into envy. 9. Preach the gospel with stunning clarity. Don't be too cute, and don't try to innovate. Christians and non-Christians both need the good news of Jesus' resurrection. Make it clear and preach it confidently. 10. Soak it up with appreciation. There was a time early in your life when you only dreamed about an opportunity to preach & lead like you get to do now — what a privilege! There will be a time someday when you don't get to do this any more — soak it up while you can! Pastors, with God's help, you've got this! You're the man for this moment. Trust him and have fun!

This Easter, I invite you to look at Jesus, consider what he said and did, and ask for yourself what I believe is the most important question you will ever answer: Did he really leave behind an empty tomb? And if he did, what does that mean for you? This video was made possible and in collaboration with my friends at @ChildlikeMedia.
