Divya was winning against Kateryna Lagno, but couldn't finish it! 😱
It's the 4th time (!!!!) Lagno has escaped the clutches of defeat! 😬
She has had a losing position in six out of seven games this Candidates! 🙃

@gutsy_gambit Fabi must beat sindarov in round 11 with white. That'll be the biggest game of his fucking life. If he doesn't beat sindarov there, his chances are zero.
English

Caruana with 4.5/7 (i.e. +2) in the remaining rounds will go to 9/14.
Sindarov with 3.5/7 will go to 9.5/14.
Niets@NepoWorldChamp
I give Sindarov an 85-88% chance to win the tournament atp. The only other player who can still realistically challenge for the win is Caruana, whose score after 7 rounds matches that of multiple previous winners’
English

@GMAlexColovic bold prediction: Anish will spend a ton of time because even if Sindarov gets outprepped, he would still somehow find the best lines in a very short amount of time. Then, he would join Fabi, Hikaru, and Wei Yi in the group of "getting bent over by Sindarov".
English

@cyrusofnara that's what happens when you play a literal engine of a human being
English

@mytywarriorking If O-O wasn't on his file, what was? Castles was the top engine move, how could it not be his file?
Also, if O-O wasn't on his file, that's still not an excuse to spend 67 minutes on one move. You should never be doing that under any circumstance.
English

@GMHikaru @FIDE_chess @GMJSindarov @gmjlh @fionchetta @chess24com @chesscom Hikaru, how was O-O not in the prep? It was the top engine move.
English

I enjoyed time with my family on the rest day and now we're back in the ring at @FIDE_chess Candidates 2026 with the tournament leader @GMJSindarov . Hammer and Fiona doing coverage on kick.com/gmhikaru. Send all the 🌻🍍🌻!!

@BrocolliV74667 I think his chances of becoming world champion was out the window as soon as he focused more on streaming. God doesn't grant you the luxury of both.
English

As much as I don't like Hikaru, you really do see a chess player realizing they might never be a world champion in this lifetime. Every round you can tell he senses that he's losing the last chance he has/d to be a classical world champion #candidates
English

@viditchess Sindarov is LITERALLY playing a PERFECT game right now. Dare I say he's the best classical chess player in the world at this moment, even better than Magnus.
English

@chesscom genuinely what is he doing. I'm not a GM or even close but what even goes on in his head when he spends an hour
English

Nakamura has been thinking for 20 minutes. Howell: "If he doesn't play 13.Ne4, I think Sindarov will be moving to +4 today!"

English

Well, that’s far away from being “solid”.

Vidit Gujrathi@viditchess
Super important match for the standings and how the tournament might shape.. Curious to see how Hikaru tries to get a fighting game, if Sindarov tries to be solid.
English

@absurdistoic How does Sindarov know every fucking line, how can bro's brain hold everything
English

@MaxChess_ I know it's early on in the tournament, but if someone doesn't take risks to beat Sindarov it's practically over.
English

@ChessbaseIndia @GRENKEChess @ram_abhyudaya I would have done the same thing, that's probably the best day of her life in terms of her chess career
English

Kazakhstan no.2 Woman Alua Nurman takes a selfie with her opponent Magnus Carlsen before the start of Round 2 at the @GRENKEChess Freestyle Open! Before the start of the round, an Arbiter comes and takes Alua's phone with him.

English

@srinathchess Diehard Fabi/Hikaru fans refuse to accept this. I've been a lifelong Fabi fan, but I've already mentally accepted the fact that Sindarov will win this tournament.
English

Candidates is a long tournament, but based on historical precedent, leading after the first 4 rounds seems like a good sign. Below is a table of the leader after 4 rounds and the eventual winner(not counting joint leaders and joint winners)
2013 - Carlsen 3/4. Carlsen 8.5/14
2014 - Vishy 3/4. Vishy 8.5/14
2016 - Karjakin 3/4. Karjakin 8.5/14
2018 - Caruana 3/4. Caruana 9/14
2020 - Nepo 2.5/4. Nepo 8.5/14
2022 - Nepo 3/4. Nepo 9.5/14
2024 - Nepo 3/4. Gukesh 9/14.

@IdrisMd990 @chess24com gotcha, thanks, yeah basically Sindarov has already won the candidates. I saw a stat on reddit that stated no candidates winner has ever trailed by more than half a point out of first at any point. since everyone is trailing by at least a point, only Sindarov can win basically
English

@dylanwang29 @chess24com Topalov has done 6.5/7 at world championship (tournament format) in the split era
English

Sindarov: "Of course I never imagined I will go to the rest day with +3, but today I think I played really very well the game & preparing fantastically, thanks for my seconds!"
Javokhir said he repeated the line in the game around 10 minutes before the game!
