You want to get Spurs out of a relegation fight? Dont get sucked into the word relegation. If I was going in there as manager now, it wouldn’t even enter any conversation. Be on the front foot, empower confidence, they will of course win enough games to stay away from it because they have far better players than other teams in the fight. When people show you who they are, believe them. If they tell you you’re in a relegation fight, if they believe they’re in a relegation fight, guess what. They behave like they’re in a relegation fight. It shouldn’t even purposefully enter the conscious psyche or language being spoken. You can call that avoidance or arrogance or ignorance or whatever you want to call it. No. It’s setting mental standards and environments that you’re not going to allow yourself to succumb to negativity and underperformance. You’re above that and that’s the level you demand and live at. And then winning games of football become a consequence of that because now you’re creating an environment for better footballers to be, guess what, better footballers.

@eason_thfc @danieIscouting I think Vuskovic profiles slightly better there, encourage Romero and VDV to be aggressive in counter pressing / M2M scenarios while Vuskovic is more dominant aerially.

believe it was @danieIscouting who pointed this out, but one of his unicorn traits, world class running power, is wasted at CB & at a premium at LB. Squad planning should account for such. Vuskovic, Romero, & Micky LB as the base of a 3-2-5 suits all of their profiles perfectly.

We can play the same system with other players too. I like Danso in either of the CB roles, Spence at LB/LWB though angles are not ideal, Bentancur in Palhinha’s role, Bergvall and Sarr are relatively interchangeable, and Solanke will compete with RKM.

Against higher pressure we build in a deep and compact 4-2 and either try to play through or play direct balls into Kudus and Kolo Muani up top. Key is to stay as compact as possible to allow players to combine and help us counterpress, like we did brilliantly vs Copenhagen.

As well as he can play on the touchline, this guy is SO good centrally. Brave enough to carry the ball in crowded areas, excellent special awareness, combination play & pass selection is top. Still a raw player imo but yesterday he was close to perfect.

If TF sees this and still decides it’s a good idea to revert to a flat 4-2 buildup with Porro and Spence wide… Porro is so much better in a back 3 during buildup, Romero is so much better as a CCB, Udogie thrives high up the pitch. Xavi thrives with less asked of him in buildup

I actually like the way we’ve set up Silly decision making and attitudes been an issue Also a couple players who’s technical level aren’t at the standard Dual 10s of Xavi and Bergvall has been reallllly nice at times, GOOD players make it work and they’re enjoying each other The width holders of Spence and Johnson are massively holding us back

Pep has this quote: “Football is not offensive and defensive. Everything is related.” Which is why the "Thomas Frank is fixing the defence first" doesn't work for me. You can't "fix" the defence without impacting the attack and vice versa. The solution has to be simultaneous.
