Spudnik-1, an orbiting potato on @Space_Station! I flew potatoes on Expedition 72 for my space garden, an activity I did in my off-duty time. This is an early purple potato, complete with spot of hook Velcro to anchor it in my improvised grow light terrarium. Potatoes are one of the most efficient plants based on edible nutrition to total plant mass (including roots). Recognized by Andy Weir in his book/movie "The Martian," potatoes will have a place in future exploration of space. So I thought it good to get started now!

Paper Day! You may have heard about these "Little Red Dots" in JWST data. Here we use new high quality spectra to show that the their spectral appearance is primarily set by the properties of surrounding gas: LRDs are hot engines covered by dense gas arxiv.org/abs/2603.17667

Few important reminders ⚠️ 1. The rapidly emerging field of Exoplanetary Sciences is driven by the overarching motivation of finding habitable worlds - answering the question is there alien life (or the possibility of it) in the Cosmos? 2. The only planet with confirmed evidence of life is our own - Planet Earth 🌍 3. The only star known to host a habitable planet with life - the Sun ☀️ It would be such a waste of knowledge, therefore, if we do not take our understanding of star planet interactions and habitability in the solar system to guide the understanding of extrasolar systems and Exoplanets + vice-versa considering the large parameter space other star-planet systems provide for constraining physical processes in a more general sense. On a more personal note, I do not put boundaries around my science; pursuits based on extension of my expertise to interdisciplinary domains that I am capable of addressing keeps me academically alive.

@ydnad0 @ictstifr Solar scientist in exoplanet conference? So actually a lot of what we know of exoplanets is determined based on behaviour and characteristics of host star? What is the deal here? Also Happy Ugadi!

Happy Ugadi from namma Bengaluru Arrived at the #Exoplanets workshop being conducted at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics @ictstifr Looking forward to deliberations on worlds beyond our own, and yes magnetism and star planet interactions! icts.res.in/program/strang…

@googlemaps And your approach on X is to invalidate the feedback of the user, taking them off the public stream, make it look like problem is restricted to one location that you will instantly fix when the fixing facility is available in app and does not work. This is gaslighting!

An essential use case that @googlemaps utterly fails at in Delhi is finding doctors. Like you can see in the images that the clinics are not where they are indicated, and it can easily send you off on a wild goose chase when you are sick and hurting. Its the same for ATMs also!

@exploreplanets You are the people actually studying planets! Why should the @IAU_org that mostly does not care about anything closer than Proxima Centauri get to decide how we define a planet? A straightforward, quantitative and common-sense criteria has been proposed! arxiv.org/abs/2407.07590

The definition of "planet" has changed more times than you'd think — and Pluto wasn't the first to get cut. Read the full story in our March issue of The Planetary Report. ⬇️ planetary.org/articles/how-d…

@Kurz_Gesagt @_Toukana I am really liking this game! The difficulty curve is a bit steep on level 3, just the complexity of the production chains, and that the worlds are procedurally generated are a bit stress-inducing. Would really like a Sandbox / Creative mode!

@gifsagar Walkability in Indian cities is horrible. However, cities like Bangalore have parks or lakes in every neighborhood where one can go for a walk. Found small parks in Nagpur as well. Need more of these.
