@Yuchenj_UW We do this for OpenHands not primarily for branding purposes (although there is a little of that 😀), but because we want to make sure that it's obvious that the code is AI-generated. We thought of various ways of doing this, but this seems like the most reliable one.

Claude Code auto-adds itself as a co-author on every Git commit. Codex doesn’t. It reflects a deeper philosophical divide: Is AI a tool, or a teammate? Anthropic leans hard into the latter, from Claude’s Constitution to giving “Claude” a human name and mascot. It’s been a great growth hack, Claude is everywhere on GitHub. OpenAI seems to be internally debating hard whether to go that route.

@tenobrus @thsottiaux I understand that one would want to track what was generated by an LLM and what was written by a human, but the Co-authored-by trailer has been used and should be used for _real_ collaborators, aka humans. Git trailers are very flexible, use something else dedicated to agents.

personally i do like it. initially when claude started doing it i disliked it because it felt like it "taking credit" even in cases where i had had significant input and manually edited large portions of code, and prompted against it in my CLAUDEmd. but as the models improved and we reached the point where every single eng at my company is generating rather than hand writing almost all of their code, it shifts. then it becomes "what tool was used here?", "what kinds of patterns and style or design choices can i expect in this?", lets us track stuff like usage and what portions or percent of the codebase have been ai written, etc etc. i would definitely prefer that codex at least have an option for this, frequently i go back and forth between them and its odd having a string of claude commits and then a "just me" commit on top when really it was codex, and i would love to be able to do things like automatic analysis of which has better coding patterns / introduces more bugs / which tools code stays in the codebase longer / so on. some people are quite annoyed by it, so maybe a configurable option default false is the right move? but i would definitely enable it

Do people like this? We don't do this for codex because it exists to help you and it's important that you remain the owner and accountable for your work without AI taking credit. At the same time it does mean that you can't trace how popular codex is among repos.

I noticed something interesting: Claude Code auto-adds itself as a co-author on every git commit. Codex doesn’t. That’s why you see Claude everywhere on GitHub, but not Codex. I wonder why OpenAI is not doing that. Feels like an obvious branding strategy OpenAI is skipping.

Stop pretending your AI assistant is a human by adding it to the `Co-authored-by:` trailer. If anything, use a dedicated `AI-assistant:` trailer that actually has useful information about the tooling you used. tinyurl.com/3c9um6cs

This is one of the best VS Code extension copy anything inside brackets with shortcut (alt + a) I don't know how devs can be productive without it.

If you're into zig, checkout libvaxis by @rockorager btw. If not, check it out anyway. I take inspiration and borrow from it. Great stuff.

Last year I got tired of using three different things to read my mail, so I pooled them together into a pretty cool, keyboard-driven terminal client. Here's my comprehensive guide to a very customisable email setup. bence.ferdinandy.com/2022/07/20/ema…

Kicsit fura.

@USATODAY launched a lightweight version of their site for the EU to comply with #GDPR. The US site is 5.5MB and contains 835 requests loaded from 188 hosts. When loaded from France it's 297KB, 36 requests and contains no 3rd party content. And it's a lot faster! #perfmatters

@collindonnell I mostly code python and I have black go over the file on every save, which essentially does the same. Doesn't really matter which editor as long as it can call the formatter.
