@Dane2415 @GentleDoofus i mean sinners had a ton of technical aspects (imax 70mm, panavision ultra 70, vfx and set designs built from the ground up instead of pre-existing locations) that inflated the budget which was still relatively low budget for a major studio blockbuster

@SW1TCHBLXDE thats pretty much the basic breakdown of the film but you can get wacky with your interpretations because david lynchs intention was for you to interpret the film the way you wanted and that feeling the emotions invoked is far more important

Brother, the Oscars have always influenced studio behavior 😭 this is not some horrifying new precedent caused by Barbie nominations. Studios have been chasing awards bait, prestige dramas, biopics, ‘important’ social issue movies, and crowdpleasing performances for literal decades.
If anything, the Academy constantly changes what it rewards depending on trends, industry politics, and cultural mood. One Ryan Gosling or America Ferrera nomination is not gonna suddenly collapse cinema into fucking rubble 💀 Film Twitter talks about the Oscars like they’re sacred commandments handed down from God instead of a bunch of industry people voting on movies they liked that year.

Like I've been glazing DePalma this week but Blow Out plot wise/dialogue wise is an incredibly dumb film. It also features some of the best shots and sound editing you're ever going to find in a genre/crime film so if you like genre/crime films you should absolutely watch it.

CinemaCon 2026: Neon closes things out with a trailer of Na Hong-jin’s Hope. Looks like a post-apocalyptic sci-fi horror movie. The monsters look crazy and weird. Hard to describe, but it almost looks like Attack on Titan meets A Quiet Place. The monsters appear to be aliens.
