Why the Restriction?
The Javelin CLU was originally designed around the older BA-5590 (non-rechargeable lithium sulfur
dioxide) or BB-390 (rechargeable NiMH) batteries. These provide a lower fully charged voltage:
. BA-5590: Fully charged around 15.OV per section (30V in series mode).
. BB-2590 (Li-ion): Fully charged up to 16.8V per section (about 33.6V in series/24V mode), with
nominal 14.4V/28.8V.
The higher voltage from the BB-2590 can damage the CLU's electronics and control circuits, potentially
requiring depot-level repairs or causing failures. The CLU isn't designed to handle or regulate this extra
voltage safely.
