ever since i was a kid, my birthday had always been my special day. nothing fancy, just a little ritual, some cake, good food and a movie. i have no idea why i always did that but i guess from the day i was told i had a birthday, i wanted to make the day mine in every way possible.
the earliest memory i have of today’s anniversary is an evening where my father carried me in his arms the entire night and my nana sang to me and the reason why i remember it in detail is because today was very similar to that day in the sense that it felt as special.
i was raised to do what i felt was right in every situation and treat people with the respect i’d want them to reciprocate so to hear how my normal way of life has changed the lives of the people that mean something to me, i’ll never forget it. you all in your own little and grand ways made this man feel like a child again and i will never forget it. if i could make anyone feel the way you all made me feel today, i’d want them to let me know.
i used to be so happy because there was almost always a world cup game on my birthday but none of the teams i actually liked, i think the closes before today was nigeria against bosnia a day after in 2014 but today i watched brazil play and it felt super special, like it was meant for me.
this is my first one that lase won’t attempt to sing to me in almost 6 years and i felt it around 8am when i remembered last year’s own.
to all the wishes on here, to the people that texted, the people that called and sang, the people that broke no contact, the people that sent me gifts, thank you so much. i hope that before i die, i can make each and every one of you feel even a fraction of how i felt today. when i made this tweet, i think my siblings had just finished singing to me and i had no idea the rest of the day would be as beautiful as it turned out.
to learn that there are people that will remember you even after you’re gone, people that will carry bits of you throughout their lives and hopefully pass it on to others is the most beautiful thing ever. to me, that’s immortality and that’s what the last four letters in my @ represent. i hope you all know that even after we’re gone, there will be a petrova line; a little red string connecting all of us to show the universe that we were family by choice.
