@macmillancancer is ready to play our part in delivering this vision and the forthcoming National Cancer Plan to ensure everyone has the world class healthcare they deserve.

We now need to mobilise every part of the NHS, social care, communities and the voluntary sector to make sure this Plan succeeds.

Congratulations @AshleyDalton_MP on your appointment as Cancer Minister. It comes at such a critical time with the development of the National Cancer Plan. It was great to see you at our Westminster event for World Cancer Day last week. Thank you for your continued support of @macmillancancer. We know how passionate you are about revolutionising cancer care for everybody and look forward to working with you.

Feeling incredibly proud and inspired. Thanks to everyone who joined us or tuned in to the live stream, to colleagues who coordinated such a fantastic event, and most importantly to our guests who shared such fascinating and important points on the state of cancer care in the UK.

The Government knows we need to do things differently, and joining forces with Macmillan and other trusted partners to develop a robust Cancer Plan we can together transform cancer care for everyone now and for the future.

Really excited to share what we got up to on #WorldCancerDay earlier this week, with a special event hosted by @macmillancancer in conversation with @wesstreeting and @bbcnickrobinson. Our audience of over 150 members of the cancer community came together to share experiences, have conversations, and spark a revolution in cancer care.

A year ago today His Majesty The King shared his cancer diagnosis with the world, causing a four-year high in people visiting our website for cancer information and support. There are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and there are unacceptable gaps in the care that people are getting. His Majesty’s openness has helped to raise awareness of cancer and encouraged people to get the vital support that is right for them, at a time when we know that many need it more than ever. We’re incredibly grateful to King Charles lll for being patron of Macmillan and for His Majesty’s continued support over the last 12 months in particular.

This World Cancer Day, we are sending love to all those navigating a cancer diagnosis – as well as the incredible doctors, nurses, charities and families who work tirelessly to support them. 🫶 If you are in need of support, consider getting in touch with… 💚 @MacmillanCancer offers a number of services for people living with cancer at every stage of their experience, and promotes better cancer care. The charity is available to provide emotional, practical, physical, and financial support. 🧡 @MaggiesCentres provides free emotional support and practical advice in centres across the UK and online to everyone with cancer, as well as their friends and families. There is no time limit on support, Maggie’s is available for as long as needed. 💙 Cancer Research UK (@CR_UK) are committed to saving lives through research, influence and information. The charity funds scientists, doctors and nurses to work towards prevention, diagnosis and treatment of over 200 types of cancer.

What better time to reflect on the state of cancer care in the UK than #WorldCancerDay? There’s almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. That’s millions of lives turned upside down, every day, in so many ways. And more and more will struggle to access the care they need because of who they are, or where they live. Better cancer care is possible. World Cancer Day is a big one for us; it’s an opportunity to highlight the voices and experiences of people living with cancer, as well as setting out our mission to transform cancer care for everyone, now and for the future. By addressing the cancer care gap and ensuring every patient can access world-class care, we can set a new standard for the UK. This is the governments’ chance to shape its legacy for generations to come.

Today we’re reporting that the number of people living with cancer in the UK has surged to the highest figure ever recorded at almost 3.5 million. And behind this number are almost 3.5 million people - individuals with unique lives, needs and challenges.

As the number of people with cancer continues to rise, the experience of cancer is getting worse for many people in the UK. Governments across the UK must take urgent action to tackle the cancer care gap and ensure everyone with cancer can access the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. We welcome @Keir_Starmer ambitious commitment to meeting the target for NHS waiting lists for routine operations and appointments in England. This could make a huge difference to the hundreds of people who are forced to wait far too long.
