S19 7x07 - 3: Long caption incoming... Danielle had been asking for Mason to come back since season 1, and when they got the cancellation news, this was her first ask. They shot the scenes 15-16 times because they shot it like a play and not individual acts/takes. They wrote the mouse funeral on set to help establish the sibling love to help in the harder scenes. The hypervigilance you see in Maya - cleaning up the kitchen spill - is common in abuse survivors so they wanted to portray that. Some of Mason's lines were rewritten to make them more harsh so Maya's decision to cut him off would be more clear. The actor who played Mason chose his facial expressions and reactions in the final scene to reflect that maybe it sunk in for the first time - because he needed to feel hope for the relationship. Danielle asked about Mason being a part of the dream sequences / flash forwards in the finale - and the writers' room was split on the decision. #Station19
