Unfortunately, closer inspection revealed that our cupola requires a specialist to restore the original timber vents, lead details, and Victorian weathervane. As well as making sure that this unique feature is restored, it is essential work to protect the Reading Rooms below. 4/5

On the roof of the Reading Rooms, opened in 1902, stands our amazing cupola. As well as being a unique architectural feature it is also the original air vent for the Reading Rooms, helping the collections to breathe and controlling the temperature of the space. 2/5

This beautiful bookplate of ‘banks of flowers’ belonged to Dorothy Mary Gladstone. It has been placed in the book, ‘The Gardener’ (1913) by Rabindranath Tagore. The book contained lyrics of love and was translated from the original Bengali. Another fascinating find from our Annex
