Why modern buildings look plain and samey, and what it has to do with the political right always losing. (Watch the first minute of OP video first.)
gracefool@gracefool

There's something really deep behind this that reveals why the world has been gradually getting more woke for hundreds of years. What he fails to understand is this phenomenon comes from the same place as wokeness. It proceeds directly from the pursuit of industrial efficiency. When efficiency, whether of land, knowledge, or "human resources" is the goal, the result tends toward a Minimal Viable Product in *everything*. All solutions converge to that which is most efficient for the global industrial machine. Not only do properties converge, countries converge. Products converge. Ideas and skills converge. People converge. The foundational ideology of woke is that everyone should be equal - where equal doesn't mean equality of opportunity, it means equal outcomes. That is to say, everyone should be the same. Regardless of race, sex, sexuality, nationality, even disability: all differences are the enemy of the industrial mindset. Differences are both unfair and unproductive. That's why we're no longer men and women, we are humans. We're no longer black, yellow, red and white, we must ignore race and mix as much as possible to become a uniform beige. We shouldn't be nationalistic, we should be global citizens; to maximize the utilization of human resources. We shouldn't pay people more based on their efforts or skills; we should all have the same rewards regardless. Why do they think this? Because they measure success in industrial fashion: by wealth, comfort and power. They have no higher measure of mankind than what man has created for himself. All that is needed for this to happen is for people to value money first and foremost. The global market determines the rest. In a world where efficiency and technique is the cause of human progress, everything eventually turns to lowest common denominator slop. Even - and especially - people. Perhaps we should call it Ensloppification. There is another word regarding people, from the Quake series. Undoubtedly it is one of the many goals of our tech bro overlords.

@YUranium235 @KEMOgroyper Villeneuve read it as a teenager. But he would not be allowed to succeed in Hollywood if he did not project their politics.

@KEMOgroyper ALMOST anyone that didn't read Dune in their angsty teen or 20 years, to have a blank slate in their mind, is not going to understand what Frank Herbert was saying. 30 plus year old will just project their internalized politics onto the books. Hence why the adoptions are lacking.

The Fremen are the least oppressed and most free people in The Imperium at the time of the events of Dune. They're only bound by nature and their own culture (which is totalitarian despite being tribal). What does oppression mean here? Brown? (they're VERY white in the books)
Carl Zha@CarlZha

I can't get over the fact that Dune is about an oppressed people fighting for their homeland, waging a jihad to bring down a hegemonic empire by threatening to cut off the flow of their most precious commodity after the empire had assassinated their religious leader's father.

There a profound truth in this: 1) the original Tron was not nominated for an Oscar for visual effects because the VFX people thought using computers was cheating 2) Oppenheimer was not nominated for an Oscar for visual effects because it didn't have any CGI in it, it was all practical effects and VFX people now think that only effects involving computers count as VFX

@zoomyzoomm It's blue-pilled to say anything about women is "unfair" unless it involves government enforcement. There are higher standards for men in almost every way because men are superior in almost every way.

Body standards are so ridiculously unfair How guys get attractive: > Chicken broccoli & brown rice 7x/week > Two hour gym sesh 6x/week > Single digit body fat > 1 hour cardio daily > Washboard abs > Not balding > Roids > Tall How girls get attractive: > Don’t eat like a whale

@ElliotIkilei This isn't very relevant since there's every reason to believe the current war will be far more disruptive to the oil trade since it involves twice the volume of oil at stake.

@wideawake_media This is an old joke... The reason nothing notable happened is a lot of coders fixed old code. Whereas with things like climate and covid they are deliberately creating the bugs and have no idea what fixing even means apart from gaining more control over everyone.

To stop them from standing together they jumped on the first churches to openly refuse to comply. To be clear there was actually mass disobedience in churches, in a spectrum from small churches in more rural areas just ignoring everything to larger churches in cities adopting various degrees of fake compliance. But the Government successfully scared off anyone thinking of making a *public* stand. The situation with doctors was very similar. Most non-compliant doctors were and remain very careful to stay under the radar. Those who didn't were made an example of and a few are still fighting to retain their licenses.

“To put it really bluntly, someone like myself could have gone out to the protest … we’d have lasted 48 hours, 72 at the most, before we would have been forced to resign” Speaking about the 2022 protest in Parliament grounds, Simon O’Connor reveals the pressure and enforcement that was going on behind the scenes. Truly awful.

A transgender 'comedian' says that trans activists should 'start killing kids' until they are allowed to use whatever bathroom they want. Jordan Raskopoulos sparked major backlash after she said that trans activists should "start killing kids" to force access to preferred bathrooms. She made the comment during a stand-up routine, in which people in the audience started laughing and clapping. Critics say her comments are a dangerous normalization of violent rhetoric that is being used more often in Democrat circles. Raskopoulos said: "I think that we've experienced the last like handful of years where trans people have tried to get our acceptance by being nice, being accessible, being the kind of person that you would be comfortable with ... babysitting your kids or whatever." "I think we should start killing kids until they let us use whatever bathroom they want." The audience's response of cheering and applause, has fueled accusations that these types of "jokes" aren't really jokes at all, but a hostility toward traditional family values and child protection. The 41-year-old comedian and Twitch streamer, publicly came out as transgender in 2016 and identifies as non-binary.

@Anusien Exactly. The difference between sci fi and fantasy is that in sci fi you come up with at least a half-assed explanation for why your world works the way you want it to for dramatic purposes.

A hugely underrated aspect of the Dune universe's appeal is how Frank Herbert built a world where people zip around the galaxy in spaceships but then fight each other with swords and knives. It makes everything 50 percent cooler than a world of ray guns and robots.

Obviously the last thing anyone against the mandates would advocate is forcing a decision on it... I have sympathy, but he doesn't sound regretful. I'm also one of those who lost his job. It's just a sad reflection of humanity that the further one rises, the more one has to lose and thus the more cowardly one becomes. Yes, no-one cares now. But the fact remains that if more people had done what we did, thousands of lives and tens of billions of dollars would have been saved. And the very people whose stand people would have cared about, did not - with very few exceptions. A few more MPs losing their jobs, or a few more doctors, would have had more impact than a hundred thousand ordinary citizens doing the same. blog.gracefool.com/2021/11/the-en…

I have sympathy for him, because I know people who both took the vaccine to save their jobs (which directly affected their ability to have a home) And others who took a stand, lost their job and their house and now have completely different jobs and are rebuilding lives at lower incomes. The truth is, no one cares what both these people are doing now. As corrupt as the govt was, there’s no silver lining for either of these choices. Personally, I was willing to die on the vaccine hill, but I can’t force that decision on anyone else, even my adult kids.
