I'm not good at showing my sense of humor in writing but trust me I have my moments when I'm funny. However, it's probably hard to make people laugh when much of the time I'm writing about heavy topics. I've been trying to become lighter because grieving has taken its toll on me.

I've been speaking to my son on a daily basis. We've come to a place where we can be friends which is cool. In the beginning we would argue until I realized it was better to be more quiet and less pushy. Those are new skills for me but totally worth the effort it takes to change.

I remember when my daughter first spoke about wanting friends. She was 11 yrs and was starting middle school. Over the years she had people come and go, like life does to everyone. A month before she died at 20 yrs, we had another conversation about her still wanting friends.

It's hard to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life. It was easy when I was a full time parent to know my purpose. Now that my daughter died and my son is on his own, I have to think about the things I want to accomplish. I want to publish but not sure which way to go.

This time of year has me in a contemplative state of mind. I think about the past and of the uncertain days that lay ahead. It's hard not to think about the mistakes and the things you wish you did instead. I remind myself to be hopeful for the future. I'm wiser than yesterday.
