We all have a part to play in preventing and protecting ourselves from cyber criminals, but the Australian Government is doing all we can to fight back against these thugs. We have a message for all cybercriminals: Australia is fighting back.

This new joint operation means the full powers of the AFP and ASD are brought in to work together to stop these cyber breaches before they start. If a cyber data breach happens, we will hunt down the cybercriminals and disrupt their networks.

This operation will collect intelligence and identify the ring-leaders, networks and infrastructure to disrupt and stop their operations – regardless of where they are in the world.

Today the Attorney-General and I announced that the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Signals Directorate will initiate an ongoing, joint standing operation to investigate, target and disrupt cyber-criminal syndicates with a priority on ransomware threat groups.

I want to make it clear: The Albanese Government stands with all Australians affected by recent cybercrime, and we’re doing everything within our power to bring the perpetrators to justice.

I just got back from a press conference this morning with my friend, the Attorney-General, @MarkDreyfusKCMP to give an update on the Medibank cyber incident and the Russian cyber thugs behind it.
