The hardback archives of Monkhouse’s handwritten joke books, dating back to 1960s, were bought in for repair by the comic’s adopted daughter and his old writing partner. In a tribute to the comic, who died in 2003, footage of the restoration was due to be aired this year. But the BBC axed the segment after a member of the production company Ricochet complained about one of the gags. I would like to know the identity of that employee. He or she has robbed many of us of a decent bit of television. Rare enough on the BBC I couldn’t give a toss if they were upset about the gag. Monkhouse will have bought a damned sight more pleasures to the world than this employee ever will.

What is happening to this bloody country!!! My daughter has been informed by school that her TWELVE year old daughter (my granddaughter) has been found on a 'stab list'. So the son of recent African immigrants, who has only been here maybe a year and has been caught at least twice with a knife at school, has now created a list of girls he intends to stab for shunning his advances. One thing on the McSweeney mobile saga. As I wrote, I contacted the Met to ask if any efforts had been made to locate the phone or the messages contained on it. They told me twice they wouldn't look into it unless I provided details of the theft, including a crime number. This is one of the biggest international political scandals for a generation. The British people have a right to transparency. And the police and the government are doing everything possible to keep that transparency to a minimum.

A heartless owner dumped nine dogs from a truck outside a rescue in Oklahoma, then sped off as the pups chased after the car. Staff at the Tulsa SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) quickly saved them from a nearby busy road. All the dogs are safe and were treated for minor issues.
