And the Pentagon wants $200 billion more which at this burn rate buys them until mid-August, at which point they’ll be back with another bill for a war that was supposed to be over in a maximum of 4 weeks, fought by an enemy that was supposed to have run out of missiles by day three. The United States is running a $1.7 trillion annual deficit on a $39 trillion national debt, with unfunded liabilities at circa $200 trillion, and it is now spending more per day on a single war than most countries spend on their entire military in a year… for a conflict that has no exit strategy, no achievable victory condition, and an adversary on wave 70+ who just put 180 ballistic missiles into Israeli air bases in a single barrage. The Strait of Hormuz is still closed to the West. Ras Laffan is still burning. The USS Gerald Ford retreated to Crete under the hilarious pretext of a laundry fire. And Congress is being asked to write a cheque that funds the continuation of all of the above until maybe the summer. Here is the arithmetic that no anchor will put on a chyron: Iraq cost $2 trillion over twenty years and is ending now with American humiliation… Afghanistan cost $4 trillion over 19 and ended with the Taliban replacing the Taliban… and those were wars against countries without ballistic missiles, without hypersonic warheads, without a navy, without the ability to close the world’s most critical oil chokepoint and hold the global economy at gunpoint while simultaneously striking and crippling nine countries’ energy infrastructure in a single campaign. Iran is not Iraq. It is not Afghanistan. It is five times larger, incomparably better armed, and it has had forty years to prepare for exactly this war. $25 billion gone. $200 billion begged.
