My idea of retirement is to find a community that's as eager to relocalize food and energy systems as I am, and set to work doing just that. Community-scale prepping. I think we need more of it, and to the extent we do it I suspect we'll be glad we did.

Of all cases that started off as “felonies” in NYC in 2021 that resulted in any kind of conviction, 89% resulted in *at most* jail time for under 1 year. Just 3% of all felony charges in NYC in 2021 resulted in prison time for more than a year.

Think about what this data tells us. If NY GOP, police, & prosecutors had their way & judges could detain any felony arrest, here’s what we know: 86% of the time, they’d be pretrial caging someone whose felony will ultimately be dismissed. 93% of the time in NYC.

Young men aren’t having sex! Nearly a third of men under 30 have not had sex. And a higher percent do not have as much sex as they’d like – not exactly surprising, but this kind of statistic is a sign of much deeper problems.

Look: This is NYPD data. Any one person getting hurt is one too many. Which is why we have to follow facts. Don’t let police scare you into believing we’re in an unprecedented crisis caused by modest reforms that simply aim to lessen the racist grip of mass incarceration.
